Last Saturday (6th of August 2011) a peaceful protest happened on the streets of Tottenham. It involved approximately 120 people eager to know why the police had shot dead Mark Duggan two days ago at close range.
Two hours after the protest, gangs took over the place, looting shops and torching cars. In the meantime, police officers were injured and chaos spread through the city.
Near my house in Manor House, north London, the supermarket had closed hastily. Mobile stores and clothes shops were looted. On the streets you will always hear someone on the phone saying:
‘Are you okay?’
‘Are you at home?’
The police were not expecting for such atrocity and criminals were taking over the capital of England. Some people’s homes were torched and a woman had to jump from the window of her own place to save her life.
So far, the damage is around £100 million. This amount will be taken out of tax contribution to cover the damnification.
Welcome to chaos.
